Current estimates have One Piece ending sometime between the glaciers of Antarctica melting in 2145 and the death of our sun in about 5 billion years.

VANCOUVER, JAPAN – Confirming fans' fears in a Crunchyroll interview, fabled manga artist and One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda told the streaming services provider that he estimated another 4000 episodes would need to air in order to hit the show’s halfway mark. “The show is really moving at a rapid pace,” Oda told Crunchyroll, “I thought it was going to take 5000 or 5500 episodes, but with the flashbacks and prior episode rehashing being only five minutes an episode, maybe 4000 is a fairer estimate.”

Betting markets were sent into a tizzy, as the general consensus had been that there were only 1500 to 2000 episodes left until the midway point would arrive. “I don’t understand how he can milk this IP for so long,” noted online gambler BoobsPLZ on X (formerly Twitter). “Sure, you can throw a few more powerups in there and extend the fights with rehashed, shallow dialogue, but to go 4k more episodes means that effectively nothing of importance is going to be happening for several more years.” One Piece’s gambling faction has exploded in recent years as more and more individuals have decided that the show was just a lifeless husk to lure in viewers for easy money. “The Sunk Cost fallacy is a bitch, but it’s a bitch that is making Eiiiichiro[sic] $$$,” went a viral post about Oda. The post set off a chain reaction of comments from fans claiming they were still engaged with the show for its merits, and not solely because they had spent the better part of their entire lives watching a band of misfit pirates chase after some shiny coins.

The comments did little to quell the fears among fans, however. Reddit was aflame with posts from fans as young as twelve concerned that they were still on pace to die before the show concluded. “There’s no way I’ll be alive to see the finale,” cried out Reddit user u/I<3NamisTits. “Why can’t he cut out just a small chunk of the bloat so his audience can see the vision as it was originally intended?”

Crunchyroll’s interview with Oda was part of a series to draw up hype for the new rendition of One Piece set to air in the upcoming months. The new version promised to cut out all the fluff and filler from the original airing. It is currently expected to be a single, twelve episode season.
